Beginning around the age of 40, a woman who regularly gets a mammogram can lower her risk of breast cancer by 30 percent; the earlier any potential problems are detected, the greater the likelihood of successful treatment. Despite this fact, however, many women avoid scheduling a mammogram because of embarrassment, cultural bias and an unfounded fear of potential pain. Utilizing on-the-street testimonials, as well as interviews with several mammogram recipients and medical specialists, this program emphasizes that no woman can afford to avoid the necessity of regular breast cancer screening.
