Not so long ago, massive flocks of exotic birds filled the sky and walked the earth. Today, these creatures are gone, pushed to extinction primarily through man's actions. Here are stories of the species doomed to oblivion: the elephant bird of Madagascar; the Moa of Mauritius and Dodo of New Zealand; and the Great Auk.
Finally, we take a look at the California Condor, saved from extinction by aggressive conservation techniques. Current efforts at conservation remind us that it is man's responsibility to protect ecological communities, recognizing that without other natural populations, we too will become extinct.
