Complex problems are not often solved with easy answers. Certainly, spaying and neutering will prevent the conception of unwanted offspring, and spay/neuter initiatives have been successful in reducing the over-all number of dogs and cats. However, spaying and neutering alone are not going to save the animals with which we already share our world. That is why animal welfare organizations must be committed to helping animals in a number of different ways including controlling their reproduction, re-homing adoptable pets, and providing treatment for those animals which can be rehabilitated.
